The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia has announced that Armenia’s representatives have won 1 gold and 2 bronze medals at the 14th Hippo “English Without Borders” international Olympiad.

The final round of the Olympiad took place from 28 September to 1 October in Spoleto, Italy, with 421 pupils from 70 countries taking part. Four pupils from Armenia had earned the right to take part in the international round, three of whom participated. Milena Manukyan (7th grade, A. Shahinyan Physics and Mathematics Specialized School), Eva Farshyan (10th grade, Ayb School) and Mari Yedigaryan (12th grade, Eurasia High School).

A reception was organized for the participants of the international round at the Embassy of Armenia in Italy, with the participation of Armenia’s Ambassador Vladimir Karapetyan.

In order to gain the opportunity to take part in the international round of Hippo “English Without Borders”, pupils must pass through several rounds. In particular, all those wishing to take part participate in the preliminary rounds at their school or in an online format. The pupils who receive the highest scores in the given country in the preliminary round (no more than 20% of the participants) gain the opportunity to take part in the national round, which is organized in separate cities or in an online format. If they receive more than 50% of the scores in the national round, the participants gain the opportunity to take part in the qualifying selection rounds, as a result of which the composition of the participants of the international round is formed.

The participants of the international round, as well as those participants who do not receive the opportunity to take part in the international round but whose scores in the national round make up 70% or more, gain the opportunity to take part in the continental round.

The continental round took place in 5 age groups on 18-21 May of this year, in Venice, Italy, with more than 1200 pupils from 45 countries taking part. 38 pupils from 16 educational institutions of Armenia took part in the organized continental round and earned 1 gold (Mari Yedigaryan, Eurasia High School, 11th grade) and 1 bronze (Lili Taghlaryan, Yerevan No. 130 Basic School, 4th grade) medals.
