A delegation of Yerevan’s Mashtots Matenadaran, led by Director Ara Khzmalyan, visited His Holiness Catholicos Aram I.
The delegation included the Matenadaran director’s deputy for the scientific section Vahe Torosian, adviser to the director Gurgen Gasparyan and senior restorers of the restoration section Susanna Baghdasaryan and Chinar Mkrtchyan.
During the meeting, alongside His Holiness was present the director of the Catholicosate’s “Cilicia” Matenadaran and the manuscripts and old printed books departments, Archbishop Shahan Sarkisian.
Welcoming the delegation of the Mashtots Matenadaran, His Holiness expressed his satisfaction and blessing for the work and reforms being carried out by the Matenadaran. The Catholicos also highly praised the importance of the Matenadaran’s mission and, as a token of appreciation, presented the delegation with a facsimile of a unique example of Armenian manuscripts, the “Partsrpert” Gospel.
The Matenadaran administration, in turn, conveyed to Catholicos Aram I a manuscript amulet from the collections of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia, restored at the Matenadaran.
It should be noted that months ago the “Sasantsi” Gospel (10th-11th century), restored by the Matenadaran, was returned to the Catholicosate and received the high praise of the Catholicos.
