Amazon Ready to Invest in Armenia If Stable Energy Supply Is Ensured

“Amazon is ready to make investments in Armenia if 24-hours stable electricity supply necessary for the company is ensured.”

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this during an interview with Infocom, referring to a letter received from the minister of high-tech industry.

“Amazon is ready to make investments in Armenia, but it needs a 1,000-megawatt station. It says, if you say that there will be a 1,000-megawatt station, I will make investments of corresponding scale in Armenia,” the prime minister said.

He did not specify the size of the possible investments, the nature of the project or the time frames for implementation.

Pashiinyan detailed that the company needs 24-hours stable electricity supply. In that regard he spoke about the need for a nuclear power plant, energy storage units and wind stations.

According to the prime minister, the vigorous demand of projects already established in Armenia in the field of artificial intelligence exceeds the country’s existing capacities. He explained the government’s growing interest in building a higher-capacity nuclear power plant by new investment programmes.
