Representatives
of US President Donald Trump have offered Ukraine expanded security guarantees
after the end of the war, with the aim of preventing a new invasion by Russia.
In return, Kyiv has been asked to leave the occupied territories under Russian
control, “The Telegraph” reports.
According to the newspaper, during a six-hour meeting last Friday in Miami with
delegations from Ukraine and European countries, US presidential special envoy
Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner made it understood that Trump is ready to offer
more serious measures for Ukraine’s defence.
The details of the “strengthened” security guarantees were not clear, but they
were presumably more than Trump’s previous proposals on monitoring Ukraine’s
airspace with American aircraft and providing intelligence satellite data.
According to “The Telegraph”, Washington hoped in this way to find a compromise on the territorial question that would be acceptable both to Kyiv and to the European countries.
