Canada will ultimately become the 51st state, because it cannot be otherwise. US President Donald Trump stated this ahead of the US congressional midterm elections, during his address to supporters of the Republican Party in the state of Arizona.
“We do not need them. They need us,” Trump added. He stressed that the United States had previously suffered up to 100 billion dollars in annual losses because of trade and economic ties with Canada.
Trump believes that the Canadian authorities will do the same as Greenland did.
In September, Trump and the prime ministers of Denmark and Greenland, Mette Frederiksen and Jens-Frederik Nielsen, signed an agreement concerning the transfer of obligations to ensure the security of the Arctic island to Washington.
Trump has previously repeatedly called on Canada to join the United States. The US president has repeatedly called Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney governor. The Canadian authorities have rejected the possibility of joining the United States.
In an interview with The New York Times at the end of September, Carney stated that the Canadian authorities had over the past year prepared for the possibility of a military invasion by the United States, although they considered such a development unlikely.
