The US Embassy in Armenia has announced that the United States has donated vehicles and specialized equipment worth about 1.4 million dollars to the Border Troops of the National Security Service (NSS) of Armenia. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Security Assistance Programs Shawna Wilson, US Charge d’Affaires David Allen and Chief of Staff of the NSS Border Troops of Armenia, Colonel Roman Sahakyan.
The donation was made through the US Department of State’s Export Control and Border Security (EXBS) program. It includes vehicles, ambulances, protective equipment, technical maintenance tools, as well as modern IT equipment for the Ayrum border crossing point. The equipment will allow an increase in the crossing point’s capacity, will strengthen border management capabilities and will contribute to the ongoing modernization process of Armenia’s border troops.
The donation reflects the strong Armenian-American partnership in the field of border security. US assistance will help strengthen the capabilities of the NSS Border Troops of Armenia to protect Armenia’s sovereignty and ensure the safe movement of people and goods, as it assumes greater responsibility for guarding the country’s borders. This includes guarding along routes important for regional interconnectivity and within the framework of the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project.
