Mirzoyan on the Processes of Normalizing Relations With Azerbaijan and Turkey

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Armenia will continue in 2027 as well the processes of normalization and development of relations with neighboring countries.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan said this at the joint sitting of the standing committees of the National Assembly.

“Our commitment is to make possible as soon as possible the signing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan, and then also its ratification, and until then we, of course, will continue a number of steps further consolidating peace and the expansion of cooperation, such as for example bilateral trade,” Mirzoyan said.

The minister also touched upon relations with Armenia’s western neighbor, Turkey.

“Our dialogue with Turkey is quite active and productive, there have been separate manifestations of cooperation and they will continue: the joint renovation of the historic bridge of Ani, programs for students, the Armenian-Turkish business conference, the first was held in Kars, the other is planned next year in Armenia. Previously Armenia-Turkey trade was carried out through a third country, that obstacle was removed, now it is direct in customs terms, geographically still through the territory of Georgia. Yes, despite all the progress, at this moment the Armenia-Turkey border continues to remain closed, but this process has matured to such an extent that at any moment we can have the opening of the Armenia-Turkey border and the establishment of diplomatic relations,” the minister noted.

Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that Armenia will continue in the same spirit to develop and further strengthen the strategic partnership relations with Georgia and Iran.
