Our State Is Our Identity: Nikol Pashinyan Presents the “Real Armenia” Concept

Within the framework of the Global Armenian Summit, Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan delivered an address, touching upon the ideology of “Real Armenia,” the identification of the state and the homeland, and relations with the Diaspora.

The ideology of “Real Armenia” is about the state. There is nothing more important than the state, and all our perceptions must be linked to the Republic of Armenia, its interests and the vision of its continuity.

Our state is our identity, and vice versa, our identity is our state,” the prime minister noted.

Touching upon Armenia’s territorial integrity and the criticisms that being guided by the established territory limits nationwide aspirations and dreams, the head of the executive stressed that internationally recognized borders are first and foremost the main guarantee of the country’s defence and security.

“The ideology of Real Armenia is based on the internationally recognized territory of the Republic of Armenia, 29,743 square kilometres.

The issue is in the border and limitation, and it is good that the border limits us from expanding to the east or to the west.

And the meaning is that as much as the border blocks us from expanding to the west, it also limits others from expanding from the west to the east.

And this is one of the next important features of the ideology of Real Armenia, and we are guided by this logic,” Pashinyan emphasized.

At the end of his speech the prime minister noted. “The Republic of Armenia can offer the Diaspora only one thing, itself as a homeland, which is a state. And that homeland offers the Diaspora love, but also respect, respect but also love.”
