“If Armenia leaves the Eurasian Economic Union, and there are no other influencing factors, the country’s economic growth could fall by 0.65 percentage points.”
This was stated by Armenian Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan.
“That is, if the economy was to grow by 6.5 percent, it will grow by 6 percent,” the minister said.
He noted that there will be both negative and positive factors. It is a complex process.
He again recalled that last year economic growth was 7.2 percent, while, for example, in 2016 it was 0.2.
“We have already answered for that 0.2. And why was it not growing by 7.2 percent at that time. Last year the world economy grew by about 3 percent, we by 7.2, that is, we developed more than twice as fast as the world.
In 2016 the world’s average economic growth was 2.8 percent, Armenia’s 0.2, that is, 14 times less than the world.
Our people have already closed the account of that 0.2. If your economic growth is 14 times lower than the world’s, its account had to be closed. Armenia cannot close such an account either, since it is twice ahead of the world. The solution is the economy. Why did I say yesterday that khachkar diplomacy must be ended, that in 2030 every ambassador in every country should not measure his effectiveness by installing one taller khachkar a year, but should measure it by exporting 10 tons more Armenian-made products a year, our people had not closed its account either,” Papoyan said.
