Rubinyan: “We Do Not Want Civil Contract to Be the Only Force”

“We do not want Civil Contract to be the only force,” National Assembly President Ruben Rubinyan has said, addressing the prime minister’s statement on the need for a pro-state opposition.

According to Rubinyan, the problem of the opposition has existed since 2018, when, in his assessment, the opposition field was occupied by representatives of the former “sole-ruler regime.” The National Assembly president insisted that those forces either try to defend “their loot” or advance “the agenda of bringing Armenia into the composition of another state.”

“We want a multi-party democratic system to be formed, but one loyal to Armenia,” Rubinyan stressed.

After the October 25 local self-government elections Pashinyan had said that he was not happy with the 70, 80 and even more than 90 percent of votes received by Civil Contract in some communities, since such results create an impression of monopoly and dictatorship.

The prime minister had spoken about the need to have a state-centered opposition, noting that he is discussing that issue in various formats.
