England national team and Bayern Munich’s 33-year-old striker Harry Kane received football’s most prestigious individual award, the «Ballon d’Or».
The awards ceremony this year was held for the first time in London, not Paris. The award was presented to Kane by legendary Brazilian footballer Ronaldo.
Kane was also named the best striker of the year. For his club and national team, he scored 73 goals during the season, while also becoming German champion with Bayern for the first time.
Kane is the first English footballer in the last 25 years to be awarded the «Ballon d’Or».
According to the voting results, second place went to Real Madrid and France national team striker Kylian Mbappe, and third to Barcelona’s 19-year-old star Lamine Yamal, who was also named the best young footballer of the year.
The women’s «Ballon d’Or» went to Spaniard Alexia Putellas, for the third time in her career.
