Trump Would Like to Run for a Third Term as US President

US President Donald Trump has said that he would like to run for a third presidential term if it were permitted by the US Constitution. In an interview, he acknowledged that the limits set by the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution are quite strict.

“I would like to run again, but the wording is very strict,” Trump said, answering a question about the possibility of running for the presidency a third time.

The 22nd Amendment to the US Constitution prohibits the same person from being elected to the presidency more than twice. Trump has repeatedly touched on the possibility of a third term, while acknowledging the existence of constitutional limits. In October, he had again stated that, in his opinion, he has the right to run, insisting that he also won the 2020 presidential election, in which he lost to Joe Biden.

At the same time, allowing the possibility of a third presidential term would require an amendment to the US Constitution. For that, the proposed amendment would need to receive the support of two-thirds of the members of both houses of Congress, and then be ratified by at least three-quarters of the US states.
