Is it mandatory to replace valid documents, what to do if there is a visa in the old passport, and is it mandatory to have an ID card to obtain a new passport?
Minister’s press secretary Narek Sargsyan addressed these questions in a video posted on the Interior Ministry’s page.
“Your documents will remain valid until their expiry date. But if you have an old blue passport and want to obtain a new red biometric passport, you may apply and receive it. Just remember, after receiving the new passport the old one becomes invalid. It will be stamped and returned to you.
And what to do if you have a valid visa in your old passport. The visa remains valid. You simply need to carry both the new passport and the old one containing the visa when travelling, also taking into account the entry rules of the given country.
Is it mandatory to have an ID card to obtain a new biometric passport. Yes, it is mandatory for citizens who have turned 16, and not for those under 16. And if the ID card is of the old model, there is no problem. If it is valid, there is no need to replace it. Simply activate strong authentication with your valid ID card so that pre-registration is easier,” Narek Sargsyan said, noting that the Interior Ministry’s awareness efforts will continue.
